چکیده

Abstract Background. Relative astrometry at or below the microarcsec level with a 1 m class space telescope has been repeatedly proposed as tool for exo-planet detection and characterization, well several topics forefront of Astrophysics Fundamental Physics. Aim. This paper investigates potential benefits an instrument concept based on annular field view, compared to traditional focal plane imaging contiguous area close optical axis. Method. Basic aspects relative are reviewed function distribution sky reference stars brighter than G = 12 mag (from Gaia EDR3). Statistics targets down 8 is evaluated by analysis simulation. Results. Observation efficiency from prior knowledge individual targets, since source model improved few measurements. Dedicated observations (10–20 hr) can constrain orbital inclination exoplanets degrees. Observing strategy be tailored include sample stars, materialising frame, sufficiently large average residual catalog errors desired level. For most provides typically more factor four seven in our case, conventional field. The brightest each target up 2 brighter. Conclusions. improves observation flexibility and/or astrometric performance respect designs. It appears therefore appealing contribution optimization future missions.

Astrometry in Wide-field Surveys

We present a robust and fast algorithm for performing astrometry and source cross-identification on two dimensional point lists, such as between a catalogue and an astronomical image, or between two images. The method is based on minimal assumptions: the lists can be rotated, magnified and inverted with respect to each other in an arbitrary way. The algorithm is tailored to work efficiently on ...

Preliminary Results on an Annular Field Reversed Configuration Translation

Annular field reversed configuration (AFRC) devices form annular plasma toroids between a pair of concentric cylindrical coils. The plasma toroid (plasmoid) remains detached from the external magnetic field so that it can be ejected from the coils, making AFRCs potential pulsed inductive plasma accelerators. Though numerous formation studies on AFRCs are available, no successful translation stu...

What Makes an Annular Mode ‘‘Annular’’?

Annular patterns with a high degree of zonal symmetry play a prominent role in the natural variability of the atmospheric circulation and its response to external forcing. But despite their apparent importance for understanding climate variability, the processes that give rise to their marked zonally symmetric components remain largely unclear. Here the authors use simple stochastic models in c...

Small Field Ccd Astrometry with a Long Focus Reflector Telescope

We discuss the use of the block adjustment method for determining astrometric positions from a mosaic of CCD frames taken with a long focus reflector telescope. The observations cover an area of 25 × 25 around the open cluster Rup21. The source of reference positions was the Tycho-2 Catalogue. The internal error in the measured positions is analyzed, and the external error is estimated from com...

Crowded-Field Astrometry with SIM PlanetQuest. II. An Improved Instrument Model

In a previous paper we described a method of estimating the single-measurement bias to be expected in astrometric observations of targets in crowded fields with the future Space Interferometry Mission (SIM). That study was based on a simplified model of the instrument and the measurement process involving a single-pixel focal plane detector, an idealized spectrometer, and continuous sampling of...
